Beşiktaş ColaTurka:100 – Mutlu Akü Selçuk Univ.:95

Our Beşiktaş ColaTurka Men’s Basketball Team hosted Mutlu Akü Selçuk University at BJK Akatlar Arena in the 18th week of the the Beko Basketball league. After finishing regulation tied at 83-83, the game went to overtime where our Black and Whites pulled out a 100-95 victory.

After Beşiktaş Cola Turka opened scoring with Drobnjak’s jumper, teams exchanged baskets on both ends and were tied at 9-9 midway through the quarter. But the Black and Whites put together a late rally that gave them a comfortable 31-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. 
The visitors regrouped in the second and cut the deficit to single digit numbers but still trailed by 7 points, 52-45, before heading back into their locker room at the break.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka opened the third with Shumpert’s three but could not respond to the consecutive baskets made by Carter, Umut Yenice and Kevin Braswell, as Mutlu Akü pulled to within 3 halfway through the quarter. Unable to put a run together, Black and Whites suddenly found themselves trailing by 56-55 with 3 minutes remaining in a game which they led since the opening tip-off. Nevertheless, a late spurt put Beşiktaş Cola Turka ahead, 64-63 entering the final period.
Mutlu Akü Selçuk University looked better in the early going of the fourth as it regained the lead on a Kevil Braswell basket. Despite the offensive effort of Apodaca and Shumpert which kept Beşiktaş Cola Turka in striking distance, the Black and Whites had trouble playing good defense and fell behind by 5 points, 73-68, with 5 minutes left to play. The dying minutes of the final quarter turned out to be real battle for both teams, as Black and Whites managed to climb back to within 1 point at 81-80 with 23 seconds remaining in regulation time on a long-range three by Shumbert. After Kevin Braswell’s free throws gave a 3 point, 83-80, edge to visitors with only 8 seconds showing on the clock, Shumpert made one of his two three-point attempts and sent the game into overtime: 83-83.
Our Black and Whites asserted their authority in overtime and built a 4 point lead down the stretch on a three-pointer by Apodoca. Then they remained in firm control until the final buzzer with jumpers from Kaya Peker and Shumpert en route to a valuable 100-95 overtime victory.
For Beşiktaş Coal Turka, Shumpert finished with 33 points followed by Kaya Peker who poured in 25. Apodaca (18), Drobnjak (11), Sinan Güler (8) and Dalmau (5) also contributed to the offensive effort of victors.
