We Made ULEB Cup History

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team completed its group phase undefeated by cruising to a 78-55 victory over French Elan Chalon and qualified for the next round, finishing in first place. Our Black and Whites made history at ULEB Cup by being the first team to reach next stage with a perfect record.

Thanks to last night’s victory that made 10 wins in a row, Beşiktaş Cola Turka experienced the enjoyment of becoming the only team in ULEB Cup’s history to complete the group games with an undefeated record.
After Shumpert knocked down a three to open the first quarter, our Black and Whites raced out to an early lead behind consecutive baskets. The outside shots from Shumpert and Kaya broke the defensive resistance of the visitors and opened a 10-5 gap midway through the opening quarters. Unable to weather Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s early storm, the Frenchmen lost control under their board and watched Black and Whites make back-to-back lay-ups from the painted area. Despite a limited number of fast-break attempts, Chalon had trouble finding its offensive rhythm and scored only 7 points in a 7,5 minute span as it trailed 22-9 at the end of the first period.
Shut down by Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s solid defense, the out-rebounded Elan Chalon could not find the bucket and began to make simple errors early in the second quarter. But the visitors still managed to regroup and cut Beşiktaş’s 16 point lead to 4, 29-25, midway through quarter with consecutive baskets by Badiane and Braud. Nevertheless, Shumpert and Nicevic came off the bench to hit shots from all over the court and gave Black and Whites a 10 point cushion at 38-28 before the halftime intermission.
Black and Whites opened the second half with 6 consecutive points and continued to dominate the game. Thanks to Shumpert’s jumpers, they went on to stretch their advantage to 50-32 at the 25th minute mark and never looked back. They also played good defense and prevented their visitors from getting an open look at the basket to take a huge 28 point, 56-39, lead by the end of third quarter.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka enjoyed its insurmountable lead in the fourth and did not push as hard as they did in the previous quarters. Despite repeated attempts, Elan Chalen never got closer than 19 points. As ULEB Cup’s only undefeated team, Beşiktaş Cola Turka went on to beat the French representative 78-55 to preserve its perfect European record that gave them a first-class ticket to the next round.
Black and Whites shared the enjoyment of making ULEB Cup history with their devoted fans after the game.
