Ertuğrul Sağlam’s Post Game Comments

Our Techinal Director, Ertuğrul Sağlam made these comments after Beşiktaş’s 3-1 Fortis Turkish Cup victory over Ankaraspor:

“Fans are important part of this game. If you play in front of a full house, you constantly get motivated and enjoy the game more. I hope this will be our last game without spectators.
We had to win this match to boost our moral before our game against Ankaragücü. In these competitions every goal counts because goal average is a deciding factor in Cup games.
We won by a score of 3-1 tonight, but we should’ve scored more goals. Converting chances is always more important that getting into positions. If you want to win, you have to put the ball into the net. It’s that simple, and the rest becomes academic. Despite three goals, we wasted a flurry of chances tonight. We have to concentrate on improving our finishing touches.
Our players’ fight for a spot in the starting line-up is increasing their performance. It will be a difficult period in the second half of the season and we need each and every one of our players. They must be sharp and ready at all times. We’ve had difficult moments in the first half, but having a quality bench and squad will definitely help us move forward in our future games.
Holosko contributed a lot to our team. He also mixed well with his new team mates and played a good game. But let’s not forget, he is only one of the players we rely on. We must get contribution from all our players if want to go all the way…
We stuck to our game plan and tried to play good football throughout 90 minutes. We know that we still need to improve certain aspects of our game, but we will work on them before the season ends to achieve our final objectives.”
