Beşiktaş Cola Turka:84 Fenerbahçe Ülker:61

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team hosted Fenerbahçe Ülker at BJK Cola Turka Akatlar Arena in the 12th week of the Beko Basketball league and ran away from its visitor with a memorable 84-61 derby victory.

Putting out a starting line up of Sinan Güler, Nicevic, Shumpert, Kaya Peker and Dalmau, Black and Whites started off strong and took control early. After trading baskets with its traditional rival during the first 3 minutes, Beşiktaş Cola Turka jumped out to an 11-6 lead behind jumpers by Sinan and Nicevic. Then, Dalmau stepped in to help his team increase its advantage while a solid Beşiktaş defense made the things difficult for Fenerbahçe with great blocks under the hoop. Unable to get into their host’s comfort zone, the visitors had no choice but to turn to outside shots and managed to pull within 2 but still trailed 23-19 at the of the opening quarter.
Black and Whites opened the second with Apodaca’s lay-up and took advantage of Fenerbahçe sloppy play to make it 31-20 with 7 minutes left in the first half. While some big blocks by Kaya Peker prevented the visitors from getting easy lay-ups, Beşiktaş Cola Turka went on to stretch its lead to 12 points midway through the quarter. But the visitors bounced back from a cold-shooting start and put together a late run to narrow the gap to 7 points with 2 minutes to play. Nevertheless, baskets coming off offensive rebounds helped Black and Whites take a 42-32 cushion into the locker room at the half.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka extended its dominance of Fenerbahçe into the second half and completely outclassed its opponent in every department. While the trio of Shumpert, Kaya Peker and Nicevic continued to knockdown high-percentage shots from all over the court, the point gap between two arch rivals grew even wider. Relying on their vastly superior rebounding at both ends, Black and Whites closed the third quarter with a 63-47 advantage and never looked back.
Despite establishing a comfortable lead, Beşiktaş’s high-tempo basketball continued in the fourth, as they increased the deficit to 21 points at 75-54 and sent the crowd wild at BJK Cola Turka Arena with 5 minutes remaining in the game. When the final buzzer sounded, the Black and Whites, who dominated the game from the opening tip, crushed their arch rival, Fenerbahçe, 84-61, in a memorable Istanbul derby.
Shumpert finished with a game-high 27 points for Beşiktaş Cola Turka. Nicevic (18), Kaya Peker (15), Apodaca (9), Dalmau (4), Sinan Güler (3), Cevher (3), Erkan (2), Arın (2) and Mehmet Yağmur (1) also contributed to Beşiktaş’s offensive effort.
