Our visiting football team suffered a 2-0 setback to Porto in its last Champions League Group A match and put an end to its European dream.
The game at Dragao Stadium was refereed by Peter Fröjdfeldt from Swedish Football Federation. A small group of expatriate Beşiktaş fans cheered loudly for their team throughout the game.Both teams staged a cautious football in the early going. The home side gradually took control in midfield but the solid Beşiktaş defense kept at bay most of the first half. A 13th - minute Lopez goal was called disallowed because of an offside. But L.Gonzales managed to put the home side ahead in the 44th minute after a goal line scrimmage. Beşiktaş asked for an offside call but did not get it. Teams went into the half with Porto leading 1-0.
At the start of the second half, Beşiktaş brought in İbrahim Akın for Burak Akın in search of a quick equalizer and found two great chances but could not capitalize on them. Porto made it 2-0 with a Quaresma goal in the 62nd minute and never looked back. The late substitution of Higuain for Tello did not change the course of the game and Porto walked away with a valuable 2-0 victory.
Black and Whites finished their Champions League Group matches in the fourth place with 6 points and got eliminated from the race while Porto advanced to the next round at the top of the group.
