Sparked by an outstanding overall performance, visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team demolished mighty Efes Pilsen 93-77 and bagged another decisive victory. Our loyal fans played an important role in the win with their non-stop cheering throughout the game.
Black and White basketball lovers showed a great interest in this week’s Istanbul derby that took place at Abdi İpekçi Sports Saloon and did not stop cheering from start to finish. Meanwhile our Beşiktaş Cola Turka displayed an exhibition basketball on the floor as it pulled off a well-deserved 16 point victory over last season’s runner up. Beşiktaş Cola Turka got off to a hot start and jumped out to an early lead with back-to-back jumpers from long-range. Spurred by an impressive performance from Kaya Peker and Shumpert at both ends, Black and White team prevented their hosts from getting an open look at the bucket for a long time. Despite a late quarter rally by the home side, Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to take a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of second, Efes Pilsen tried to exert its dominance by drilling 3-pointers beyond the arch but Black and Whites quickly answered them with Shumpert and Apodaca. Nevertheless, lifted by Kerem Gönlüm’s rebounding the home team eventually sealed its defense and did not let Beşiktaş Cola Turka forwards to get inside as it cut the deficit to single point at 27-26 with 4 minutes remaining in the half. However, our Back and White team refused to get caught and extended its lead to 11 points within a 2-minute span at 37-26 thanks to a late surge from Kaya Peker and Shumpert. This timely run enabled Beşiktaş Cola Turka to take a deep breath as it trotted to its locker room holding a 39-31 edge at the half- time break.
Black and Whites carried their momentum into second half and a productive performance from Kaya Peker and Erkan Veyseloğlu kept Efes Pilsen under constant pressure. Backed by high-percentage 3-pointers and superior rebounding visitors increased their advantage to 18 points midway through the third quarter and entered into final minute ahead 61-49. Then Shumpert, who was definitely one the of the stars of the game, started to nail jumpers from all over the floor and boosted Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s lead to 66-49 after there quarters of play.
Despite a comfortable cushion, Black and White team did not slow its game down while Apodaca and Shumpert kept knocking down three after three. After minimizing its defensive lapses, Beşiktaş Cola Turka held off a late charge by Kerem Gönlüm and forced the hapless Efes Pilsen defense to watch Apodoca drain a string of unanswered 3-pointers from the corners. Lifted by Kaya Peker’s extraordinary offensive rebounding down the stretch Black and White visitors managed to run away with a convincing 93-77 victory in the end. They also dealt the mighty Efes Pilsen one of their worst home losses ever.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s other star Apodaca finished the game with 25 points while Shumpert had 22. Kaya Peker (22), Niceviç (8), Dalmau (7), Erkan Veyseloğlu (5), Onur Aydın (3) and Mehmet Yağmur (2) were the other scorers for the victors.
