Statement from Our President

Following the controversial derby loss, our President Yıldırım Demirören, made a striking statement to public regarding the events that took place during the game:

‘‘First of all I want to make clear to you that I am absolutely proud of my management, team and fans. Since they couldn’t beat us on the field, they had no other choice but to resort to dirty tricks to bring us down. This shows how great we are. Despite this unfair loss, we are still one of the top contenders in the league and whatever they do will not keep us way from finishing first. As far as I am concerned Mr. Affan Keçeci, our delegate to Turkish Football Federation must resign immediately because a Beşiktaş delegate who does not defend the rights of Beşiktaş has no place up there.

Furthermore, referee İsmet Arzuman, who virtually caused a scandal on the pitch in the first 30 minutes with his never ending one sided calls, must give up officiating starting from today. As usual, Fenerbahçe management pressurized the referee with their pre-game statements whole week while Federation kept its silence. Regardless of this complicity Beşiktaş community must stand together because, as I told you in 2004, the federation is actually aiming to create a two top-contender in Turkish league. However they fail to see that Turkish football cannot survive without Beşiktaş.

As a protest, we decided to play our upcoming game against Sivasspor with our youth team. We also ask our fans not to come to this game. If our sponsors want to cancel their contacts so be it. We are fed up with bad calls. As everybody will remember, these calls have already cost us two crucial derbies. If you take into account the fact that we have no other contender in the championship race, you will easily realize how important those wasted points will be at the end of the league. If Mr. Arzuman and Keçeci decide not to resign, we will reconsider our position and probably step on the field with our youth team in the following games as well. Nobody has a right to tamper with the future of Beşiktaş. As long as we stay calm and stick together until the end, no dirty trick will prevent us from reaching our goals. Our technical staff and players are behind us one hundred percent. I am proud of them.’’
