Bobo the Trabzon Tiger

Our legendary 4-3 win against mighty Fenerbahçe in Kadiköy went down in Beşiktaş History as one of the greatest victories of all times. In that memorable game forward Pancu played goalkeeper and prevented Fenerbahçe from scoring by making superb saves except a late penalty. History repeated itself in Avni Aker Stadium tonight.

Bobo the Trabzon Tiger not only scored Beşiktaş’s go-ahead goal but also stepped into the net and brilliantly defended Black and Whites’ one goal advantage until the final whistle.
Just like our victory in Kadiköy 3 seasons ago, we made history again in Trabzon today… despite falling behind 2-0 early in the game, Beşiktaş fought back vigilantly and went 3-2 ahead at the 73-minute mark. However, 10 minutes left in regulation time, the same situation that took place 3 seasons ago repeated itself. Our goalkeeper Rüştü Reçber left his 18-yard line box to avoid a dangerous Trabzonspor attack but the ball hit him in the chest. After being warned by the linesman, the referee Bülent Yıldırım assumed that he handled ball and showed him the red card. As a result of this unfair call our team was reduced to 10 men on the field. Since Black and Whites already made their 3rd substitution, there was no other choice but to send Bobo into Beşiktaş’s goal. However, our Brazilian star, who recorded our third goal in the 73rd minute, to everyone’s surprise played like a real tiger and did not let the home team to score for the remaining 13 minutes. As a result of his superb goalkeeping, Bobo was given the nick-name of ‘‘Trabzon Tiger’’ after the game.
BOBO IS DELIGHTED
Following our historical 3-2 away victory Bobo, who successfully defended Beşiktaş’s net for 13 minutes made these comments regarding his performance as a goalkeeper:
‘‘I was hoping to play in the striker position but once Rüştü was sent off, I replaced him to help my team. I was feeling confident and I thought I could prevent them from scoring.
The long balls coming straight at me were really dangerous. But a free-kick situation scared me the most.
There was also a threatening cross near the end but I was well positioned for it. This is the first time I ever played goalkeeper in my career. Now, I realize how difficult to be a goalkeeper. Even the smallest mistake you make lets the other team score and the rest becomes academic.’’
