Beşiktaş Makes History in Trabzon

While trying to recover from the shock of an unexpected first minute goal, our team fell behind 2-0 after only 6 minutes. But visiting Black and Whites, after weathering Trabzonspor’s initial storm, fought back vigilantly and rallied for three goals in the 22nd, 26th and 73rd minutes to claim yet another historical away victory.

Despite having its starting goalkeeper Rustu sent off after a bad call in the 80th minute, the short-handed Beşiktaş managed to hold onto its lead and walk away with well-earned 3-2 victory over the mighty Black Sea representatives.
The game at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium was played in front of empty stands due to Burgundy and Blue team’s suspension and refereed by Bülent Yldırım.
Both teams stepped on the field with banners in support of hearth care and observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the memory of martyrs who lost their lives as a result of recent terrorist attacks. In addition, all players wore black arm-bands to protest against terrorism.
After receiving a through pass from Umut, Gökdeniz Karadeniz found himself in a one on one situation with the goalkeeper and his finish put the home side 1-0 ahead in the first minute. Five minutes later, Yattara added another to give Trabzonspor a valuable 2-0 advantage hard to overcome. Despite falling behind so early, Black and Whites refused to go away and had a flurry of chances in front of the host team’s goal. As a result, Burak Yılmaz pulled one back for Beşiktaş in the 22nd minute. This timely goal boosted Black and Whites’ morale in their search for an equalizer. Not much later, the referee showed the penalty spot when Delgado was brought down inside the 18 yard-line after getting struck in the face. The Argentinean converted the penalty shot and leveled the score at 22-minute mark. Beşiktaş looked much more effective offensively during the remaining minutes and managed to score another one in added time but it was disallowed because of an offside call. Black and whites went to the locker room with a 2-2 tie at the half.
Both teams displayed a rather cautious football in the second half and preferred to keep the ball in midfield. Beşiktaş made two substations and replaced Serdar Kurtuluş (62nd min.) and Nobre (69th min.) with Mehmet Yozgatlı and Bobo for extra scoring punch. This timely strategy paid off handsomely as the newcomer Bobo redirected Tello’s clever pass into Trabzonspor net for a 3-2 Beşiktaş lead in the 73th minute. In order to maintain this late advantage Koray Avcı was sent in  for Burak Yılmaz at the 76-minute mark.
Another Blunder by the Referee
With 10 minutes left to play, our goalkeeper Rustu left his 18 yard-line to stop a Trabzonspor counterattack. The ball took a bounce and hit him in the chest, but the referee assisted by linesman’s call assumed that he handled the ball and showed him the red card. Since Beşiktaş had already made its final substitution, striker Bobo went into the goal to play in goalkeeper position for the rest of the game.
However both teams failed to score during the remaining minutes. And our Black and Whites, after trailing 2-0 early in the game stormed back to snatch a well contested 3-2 away victory at the end.
