Turk Telekom:93 Beşiktaş Cola Turka:86

Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team suffered a 93-86 loss at the hands of Turk Telekom in the season opener of the 2007-2008 Beko Basketball League.

Thanks to an early barrage of consecutive baskets by Apodaca, Sinan, Nicevic, our Team made an impressive start into the game and jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first 2 minutes of the first quarter. Following Turk Telekom Coach Ercüment Kunter’s time-out, the host team tried to stage a come back but Dalmau immediately answered Haluk Yıldırım's basket and Nicevic, who was his day, continued to produce a steady flow points for Beşiktaş from all over the court. However an effective performance by Wright under the boards started to cut the deficit down as Black & Whites held on to a slim 2 point lead at the 6 minute mark. Nevertheless, from that minute onwards, Beşiktaş Cola Turka, helped by Nicevic and Sinan’s back to back baskets, got organized and played  excellent defense that put them 23 - 12 in front going into second quarter.
Unable to stop Apodaca and Nicevic’s high-percentage shots, Turk Telekom came empty handed from most of its scoring attempts as Black & Whites extended their lead to 15 points (27-12) 8 minutes left to go in the second period.
However, Ankara representative eventually tightened up defensively and started to take advantage of Beşiktaş’s costly turnovers. A 15-3 run staged by Wright, Bekir, Tutku and Dudley enabled Turk Telkom to claw back within 3 points at 30-27 with 6 minutes remaining in the quarter. Nonetheless, Beşiktaş managed to counter this rally with Erkan, Apodaca and Dalmau trio's points that did not allow the host team to get any closer. Lifted by Nicevic and Erkan's late quarter baskets, Black & Whites went to their locker room leading 46-37 at the half.
Both teams started the third quarter by exchanging baskets on both ends. While Dudley and Wright scored for the home side, Black & Whites responded them with Sinan and Nicevic. Dalmau converted Turk Telekom’s defensive errors into valuable points and increased Beşiktaş’s lead to 56-44 at the 24 minute of the game. But Haluk Yıldırım’s effective rebounding combined with a timely 3-pointer from El-Amin initiated another comeback rally for the hosts that reduced Black Eagle’s advantage to 5 points (60-55) with 3 minutes to play in the quarter. Following an exchange of 3-pointers put forward by Haluk and Dalmau, Beşiktaş Cola Turka went into the fourth quarter holding a 70-63 lead.
Turk Telekom opened the final quarter with Wright-Williams duo’s baskets. Black & Whites tried to counter them with Apodaca's points but the convincing executions by El-Amin and Williams enabled the home side to gain the upper hand in the game and Tutku’s timely 3-pointer cut Beşiktaş Cola Turka's lead down to a single point with 5 minutes left in the game (78-77). After Black & White's most effective player Nicevic fouled out, Beşiktaş struggled to maintain its advantage with Kaya Peker’s points but Williams 2 free throws with 3 minutes remaining put Turk Telekom ahead for the first time in the game (83-82). Backed by Williams’ offensive surge, the host team got two quick baskets from Tutku and Wright and extended its advantage to 4 points going into the final minute. Despite Black & Whites’ desperate attempts to recover the lost ground, Turk Telekom managed to hold on to its lead and walked away with a 93-86 hard-fought victory.
