Basketball Team Reaches Quarter Finals

Despite losing the final game 84-82 to Oyak Renault in Group D, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men's Basketball Team qualified for the quarter finals of Opel Turkish Cup as group leader with two previous wins.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team started the game with a first five consisting of Erkan, Cevher, Christian Dalmau, Sandra Nicevic and Jason Apodaca. This was a must-win game for Oyak Renault to stay in the race so highly motivated Bursa representative immediately took a 5-0 lead in the first minute thanks to baskets by Evren. Although Nicevic answered Evren with a three point play, Black & Whites encountered serious difficulties in scoring throughout the quarter as Oyak Renault established a 7 point deficit in the first five minutes (12-5). Black Eagle could not stop the accurate outside shots of the Bursa team and trailed 28-15 going into second quarter.
Oyak Renault opened up the second quarter with a couple of long range 3-pointers (34-15). Unable to match the extraordinary offensive performance of its opponent Beşiktaş could not get on the scoreboard until Ali Erdoğan’s technical fault. Thanks to an another streak of unanswered 3- pointers, representatives from Bursa city widened the gap to 20 points (45-25) with five minutes left to play. In order to cut this huge deficit down Beşiktaş Cola Turka tried everything in the book but Oyak playing with a 9/13 3-point field-goal percentage still led 54-37 at the half. 
In the second half, there was a completely different Beşiktaş Cola Turka on the court. Starting to play an effective catch-up basketball, Black & Whites managed to reduce the deficit to 11 points (56-45) with Sinan Güler’s driving layup six minutes into the third quarter. A combination of revitalized offense and solid defense helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka erase the gap even more and pull within 4 points of its opponent with 50 seconds to go. When Özgür missed Oyak Renault’s last shot, Apodaca made it 61-59 and Black & Whites trailed by only 2 points after three quarters.
Both teams started the thrilling fourth quarter by exchanging baskets on both ends. After bringing the score to 67-64, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball team finally tied the game at 67-67 with Nicevic’s 3-point play with 5:50 to play in the game. However Bursa team recaptured the lead once again and entered the final minute 81-76 in front. Black & Whites managed to reduce the deficit to 3 points (83-80) with 53 seconds to go but Oyak Renault survived Beşiktaş Cola Turka's final onslaught and won the breathtaking game 84-82.
Having won its previous two games comfortably, Black & Whites finished at the top of Group D and qualified for the quarter finals of Opel Turkish Cup.  By ending up in the second place in the group, Oyak Renault also earned the right to compete for the quarter finals.
