Galatasaray:2 Beşiktaş:1

Our Football Team suffered a 2-1 loss to its traditional Istanbul rival, Galatasaray at A. Sami Yen Stadium in the first derby  of the season. Our consolation goal came from Chilean international Tello in the 44th minute.

The game was played without any spectator due Galatasaray’s penalty remaining from last season and refereed by Selçuk Dereli. Penalized Cisse and injured Ricardinho did not take place in the team’s starting line up. Our team stepped on the field with a banner wishing well for recently operated Galatasaray President Özhan Canaydın suspected of having pancreas cancer.
The early minutes of the game staged a typical mid-field struggle by both teams. But the home side Galatasaray went ahead 1-0 with Hakan Balta, in the 23rd minute, who sent the ball in coming from a questionable corner- kick. Following this unexpected goal, Beşiktaş stepped up its attacks to equalize the score. As a result of this pressure, Black & Whites managed to tie the game thanks to a brilliant drive from Chilean Tello who sent  Selçuk Kurtuluş’s perfect pass into the top left of corner of Galatasaray net at exactly one minute before the half time break.
At the start of the second half, Mehmet Yozgatlı replaced defensive-back Diatta for additional attacking power. The substitution of Argentinean Delgado for Nobre at 64th minute also brought more movement to our forward line. But a dubious call by referee awarded a much-talked about penalty to host team in the 77th minute. Nonda took advantage of this unfair decision and put Galatasaray 2-1 ahead once again. Despite Black & White forward Higuain’s entrance into the game with 5:00 from time, home side Galatasaray held on to its lead and won the first derby of the season 2-1.
