Olympic Marseille:2 – Beşiktaş:0

Visiting Beşiktaş Football team suffered a 2-0 loss to Olympis Marseille in the opening game of Champions League Group A.

The match was played at Veledrome Stadium and referred by Matteo Simone of Italian Football Federation.
Nearly 2600 devoted Beşiktaş fans coming from all over Europe supported our team wholeheartedly throughout 90 minutes.
Home team Olympic Marseille, off to a fast start, kept pressurizing our defense with impressive attacks initiated especially from the left wing in search of an early goal. But after successfully thwarting these scoring attempts by the French team, Beşiktaş got organized offensively and tried to respond Marseille with its own wing attacks.
As a result of home side’s rough and illegal tackles Serdar Kurtuluş and Ricardinho sustained injuries and had to make an early exit. İbrahim Kaş (25th min.) and Koray Avcı  (45th min.) entered the game as their replacements. Neither team was able to change the scoreboard as the first half ended in a scoreless tie.
In the second half, Olympic Marseille displayed rather a risky performance to take the lead. But our keeper Hakan Arıkan made some spectacular saves which prevented the home team form scoring. Our Technical Director, Ertuğrul Sağlam substituted Delgado with Argentinean forward, Higuain for additional scoring power 15 minutes from the time.
A minute later, our keeper Hakan Arıkan playing against a strong wind could not catch the ball coming from the corner kick that hit the far post. By chance the ball fell in front of unmarked Rodriquez who gave a 1-0 unexpected lead to the struggling French team. Black & Whites came close to even up the score in the 86th minute but young Serdar Özkan’s hard drive inside the 18 yard line went just wide off the far post. During the injury time, Cisse added another goal for the home side who posted a 2-0 win at the end of the game.
