Our first Turkish Technical Director who carried Beşiktaş into the Champions League made these comments regarding our 2-0 victory over F.C. Zurich:

\"August 30 is a special day for Turkish Nation. First of all I congratulate everybody's Victory Day. At this meaningful date, it was quite important that we end up with a victory for all. We took a great step forward for both Beşiktaş and Turkey. We enjoy the pleasure of being in the Champions League for the 4th time. As a result of first leg’s advantageous score, my team felt a little bit overconfident before the game but we were able to manage to lift it off and staged a rather disciplined effort throughout 90 minutes without ever letting it go. I congratulate every one of my players on their solid effort.  Tonight we are going to celebrate this victory but tomorrow we will start getting ready for the Kayserispor match. During 97-98 season, I played in the Champions League for Beşiktaş. Being able to represent it in Champions League once again, both as an ex-player and Technical Director, is an exciting feeling for me. Beşiktaş is a team of ‘firsts’ and there are a lot of ‘firsts’ waiting to be achieved.\"
