Our Football Team qualified for the group stages of Champions League by overpowering F.C. Zurich 2-0 in the second leg of 3rd qualifying round played at BJK İnönü Stadium. Our goals came from Delgado in the 56th and 64th minute. In addition to our annual August 30 National Victory Day, this victory allowed our community and Turkish football supporters in general to enjoy a double celebration.
Our fans in BJK İnönü Stadium supported the Black & White Team with their usual orchestrated cheering throughout the game. Having recorded a 1-1 tie in Zurich, Beşiktaş kicked off the second leg. During the early minutes, while visitors tried to apply pressure on our defense, Beşiktaş preferred to play a controlled football by keeping extra men in mid-field. As a result, the first 15 minutes of the game displayed a typical mid-field contest between the two opposing sides.Staging a more effective performance than visitors, Black & Whites eventually gained control of the ball and organized threatening attacks from both wings against the Swiss representative’s goal. Despite finding some serious positions, Beşiktaş was unable to score and the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 draw.
Starting the second half without any substitution, our Black & Whites found its long awaited goal with a 56th minute header by Delgado who put the Black Eagle 1-0 in front. As Beşiktaş’s organized football continued, our Argentine star Delgado took the center stage once again and gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the 64th minute. When Delgado left the game for Ali Tandoğan in the 77th minute, he received a standing ovation from our devoted fans. İbrahim Akın (79th min.) and Batuhan (91st min.) replaced Ricardinho and Bobo respectively. Since Beşiktaş had a 1-1 draw in the first leg, this 2-0 victory gave our Black & Whites a chance to play in the group stages of the upcoming European Giants League.
