FC Zurich: 1 - Beşiktaş: 1

Our Football Team was held to a 1-1 draw by FC Zurich in the first leg of Champions League 3rd Qualifying round. Our goal came from Delgado in the 3rd minute.

The match was played at Hardturm Stadium and refereed by English Mike Riley. Nearly 3000 Beşiktaş fans watched the game. They supported their team passionately right from the start.
Following an impressive start, Beşiktaş went ahead 1-0 with Delgado’s 3rd minute goal and stored great confidence for the rest of the game. Following this early goal, while Beşiktaş mostly relied on defense to protect its advantage, the host team displayed a more offensive football in search of an equalizer. However, our keeper Hakan Arıkan prevented FC Zurich from scoring thanks to his brilliant saves. Consequently, Beşiktaş went to its dressing room leading 1-0 at the end of the first half.
During the early part of the second half, the home side kept applying pressure to tie the game and kept control of the ball. Ibrahim Akın (46th min.) and Koray Avcı (62nd min.) entered the game for Ali Tandoğan and Ricardinho respectively. After successfully getting rid of host team’s scoring attempts, our Black & Whites organized threatening counter-attacks for a second goal. Our Technical Director, Ertuğrul Sağlam made his last move by substituting Delgado for Burak Yılmaz in the 78th minute. The final minutes of the game were full of excitement and a stoppage time goal by Alphonso (90+7) equalized the game. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The second leg of this qualifying round will take place at BJK İnönü Stadium on Wednesday, August 29.
