Beşiktaş: 1 FC Sheriff: 0

A 74th minute goal by İbrahim Toraman, inspired Beşiktaş to a 1-0 victory over Moldavian representative Sheriff in the first leg of the Champions League second qualifying round.

Beşiktaş’s first official game of the season at BJK Inonu Stadium was refereed by German Peter Sippel. He was assisted by linesmen Walter Hoffman and Peter Henes along with 4th referee, Michael Kempter.
Our new transfers Rüştü Reçber, Cisse and Tello started in the line-up tonight and played their first official game. This was also our new Technical Director, Mr. Ertuğrul Sağlam’s first official match of the new season.
Our devoted fans didn’t leave Beşiktaş alone in this crucial season opener and supported their team throughout 90 minutes wholeheartedly.
After a rather cautious start, Our Team eventually took control of the game and staged attacks from both wings by Serdar Özkan and Tello. Our regulars Ricardinho and Delgado also put pressure on opponent’s defense from the middle. However their attempts were not sufficient enough to change the scoreboard. Visiting Moldavian team FC.Sheriff on the other hand, remained mainly on the defense and relied on fast counter-attacks. Since neither team managed to score any goal, first half ended in a goalless draw.
At the beginning of the second half young Batuhan Karadeniz replaced Delgado with the intention of bringing in more scoring power to our forward line. Cisse was also replaced by Koray Avcı in the 69th minute. Beşiktaş, desperately searched for a goal throughout second half. And its efforts finally paid off in the 74th minute. İbrahim Toraman headed in Ricardinho’s corner with a perfect timing and gave Black & Whites a 1-0 lead in the game. Mehmet Yozgatlı entered his first official game of his career under Black & White jersey after he was substituted for Ricardinho in the 87th minute. As the remaining minutes did not produce any goal, the game ended in a 1-0 victory for Beşiktaş.
The second game of the qualifying round will be played in Moldavia on August 8.
