Our visiting Football Team was outscored 3-0 by the host Kayserispor in the final week of the 2006-2007 Turkcell Super League. Despite the loss our Black&Whites managed to finish the season in the second place with 61 points and entitled to represent our country in the Champions League next season.
The game was played at Kayseri Ataturk Stadium and staged a high tempo mid-field struggle during the early minutes in which neither was able to assert its supremacy. As a result both teams tested each other’s goal with long range shots. Consequently, a long drive by Mehmet Topuz hit the target and put Kayserispor 1-0 ahead 27 minutes into the game. While Besiktas was desperately searching for an equalizer Kayserispor’s Gökhan took the center stage and made the score 2-0 infavor of the home team. Since neither team was able to register an additional goal during remaining time, yellow & red host team went into locker room with a 2-0 lead. The addition of İbrahim Akin into the game for Aydın Karabulut in the second half certainly provided more teeth to Black & White front line. As an outcome, İbrahim Akın came close to scoring during a 51st minute attack but his hard strike hit the cross bar and did’t find the target Mehmet Sedef (64th min.) and Gökhan Güleç (80th min.) replaced Fahri Tatan and Delgado respectively. At exactly eight minutes from time, Ilhan increased the deficit to 3 goals and caught Besiktas completely off-guard. At the end of the final whistle our Black&Whites were returning home with 3-0 unexpected loss that did not affect its second place position in the standings.
