Beşiktaş Cola Turka:72 Fenerbahçe:64

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team outscored its arch rival Fenerbahçe 72-64 in game 5 of final playoff series played at BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex. This victory of Black & Whites Ladies enabled our Ladies to even the series at 3-3 with a final game left to decide this season’s Women’s Basketball League champion.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka started the game with Lovelace, Şebnem Kimyacıoğlu, Esmeral Tunçluer, Sheri Sam and Kara Braxton regular line-up as both teams staged an aggressive defense and relied heavily on shots taken from outside the painted area. Following an exchange of baskets by both teams, Black & Whites managed to take the lead for the first time in the game with Sheri Sam’s lay up (15-14) at exactly 3:00 from the end. Despite of Pondexter’s extraordinary scoring, visiting Fenerbahçe faced difficulty in stopping Sheri Sam under both baskets. As a result Black Eagle sustained a 2 point advantage going into the second period (20-18)
Beşiktaş Cola Turka attempted to steal the game with Kara Braxton but the yellow & dark blue team tightened up its defense and thanks to back to back baskets by Nevriye and Pondexter regained the lead. When Poindexter was in the game Fenerbahçe established a substantial supremacy over its host but our Black & White Ladies cleverly took advantage of the times while she was resting on the bench and concluded the first half 42-39 on top.
Regardless of Lovelace’s brilliant lay up at the start of second half, Beşiktaş Cola Turka started to lose its rebounding superiority of the game  to Fenerbahçe.  After a short while this advantage started to be reflected at the score board as well. In addition to this Poindexter’s accurate baskets from all over the court opened up a 6 point lead with 2:00 to go in the period. Despite all attempts by Black & Whites to regain the lead, Fenerbahçe entered into final 10 minutes 57-54 in front. The cautious defensive play staged by both teams allowed only 2 points during the first 3 minutes of the fourth and decisive period. While Beşiktaş Cola Turka tried almost everything to reassert its supremacy during this final stage, visitors clung to the game with Poindexter’s unstoppable scoring. However our Black & White Ladies eventually managed to level the score at 59-59 and then moved 5 points ahead with 2 minutes left in the game (66-61). Not repeating its previous and costly defensive errors; Beşiktaş Cola Turka put up a brilliant fight to keep arch rival Fenerbahçe at arm’s length. A crucial 3 point basket by Yasemin Horasan within the, final 50 seconds killed visitors’ all hopes to get back into the game as the deficit grew larger in favor of the home team. During final seconds of the game Kadiköy’s yellow & dark blue ladies accepted the loss as Black & Whites grabbed a 72-64 well-earned victory which tied the series at 3 wins each (3-3).
