Following a 90 minutes of scoreless action, Beşiktaş managed to defeat Kayseri Erciyesspor 1-0 in extra time with Bobo’s 102nd minute goal and win the prestigious Fortis Turkish Cup for the second year in a row.
Final game of the Cup was played at İzmir Atatürk Stadium in front of thousands of cheering Beşiktaş Fans under the successful refereeing performance of İsmet Arzuman. In order to gain control for their future attacks, both teams displayed an aggressive struggle in midfield during early minutes of the first half. While blue & black Kayseri Erciyesspor mainly relied on a counter-attacking football based on solid defense, our Black & Whites tried to organize effective attacks especially from right wing to secure an early goal. However, since neither team was able to change the score board during first 45 minutes, first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
At the start of second half, Beşiktaş came close to scoring with Bobo whose shot in front of Kayserispor goal hit the crossbar. Koray Avcı (53rd min.) and injured Ali Tandoğan (62nd min) were replaced by Mehmet Sedef and İbrahim Kaş respectively. Despite of Burak Yılmaz’s long range threatening drives, Beşiktaş forwards could not find the net and the regulation time was concluded in a goalless tie while the game was carried into extra time.
Immediately into the additional 30 minutes, Beşiktaş who replaced Nobre with İbrahim Akın imposed a heavy pressure on Kayseri Erciyesspor defense which made them remain inside their own half of the field until the final whistle. As a result of this effective offensive performance Black & Whites finally hit the target with Brazilian Bobo who headed in Serdar’s perfect cross from right wing in 102nd minute of the game and gave Beşiktaş a 1-0 lead. This well-timed goal would bring the prestigious Fortis Turkish Cup to Beşiktaş’s museum at the end of 120 minutes for the second consecutive season in a row.
