By grabbing a 74-73 narrow semifinal victory in the first game of the series over arch rival Fenerbahçe, visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka leveled the series at one win each (1-1).
Since Fenerbahçe had won both regular season meetings, it started the game played at Caferağa Sports Saloon with a 1-0 advantage.While teams exchanged baskets during the early part of the period, Fenerbahçe responded Black & Whites’ scoring by Şebnem, Sam and Lovelace with baskets from Sutton, Brown and Nevriye who kept the score close throughout the match. Nilay’s long but accurate 3 pointer gave home side Fenerbahçe a 21-19 lead at the end of the first period.
With the started of the second period, the Ladies of Beşiktaş Cola Turca immediately imposed an offensive pressure on their traditional rivals and found key baskets with Yasemin, Sam, and Sariye. This effective scoring punch was eventually combined with a solid defense as it fired Black Eagle 35-33 on top at the half.
Continuing to display an impressive performance, baskets by Yasemin, Lovelace and Braxton increased the deficit to 10 points (45-35) with 6:00 to go in the period. Beşiktaş entered the final quarter with a 7 point advantage (58-51).
While Black & Whites tried to preserve their lead, Fenerbahçe responded with points scored by Birsel Vardarlı . As a result yellow and dark blue team managed to lower deficit to a single point with 1:30 left in the first semifinal game. From this point on both teams referred to tactical faults in order to gain a last second advantage. But Beşiktaş Cola Turka would be the team who prevailed in this exciting game as it posted a 74-73 narrow victory over their traditional rivals at the end.
