In the 24th week of Beko Basketball League, Our Beşiktaş Cola Turca Men’s Basketball Team recorded an 87-86 overtime loss to Alpella in a well contested game played at BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex.
Stepping on the floor with its regular Barış Güney, Reese, Harvey, Cevher Özer and Erdal Bibo line up, Black & Whites trailed in the early part of the game despite of attaining a short lived 8-8 tie in the 4th minute. Unable to contain the overall productive play of Alpella especially in the both painted area, Beşiktaş Cola Turca fell 16-12 behind during the 7th minute. Even the efficient support provided from the bench which at one point reduced the deficit to a single point would not to stop the impressive visiting side to take a 25-20 lead at the end of the first period.During the second period, thanks to the points produced from fast breaks Beşiktaş began to exert its superiority on to the game and leveled the score in the 14 minute (28-28). However from that minute on, visiting Alpella displayed an aggressive defensive play that discouraged Beşiktaş Forwards from scoring. This new effective tactic and Caner’s extra baskets again tilted the balance of power to visiting team's favor with an increase of the deficit against Beşiktaş Cola Turca once again. At the end of the first half Alpella managed to establish a 47-38 commanding lead.
Black & Whites made an unexpectedly fast entry into the second half and registered 11 unanswered points within 3 points which put them 49-47 in front. Throughout the remainder of period, Beşiktaş Cola Turca staged a better performance compared to previous periods and fought hard for each and every single point. However lowly ranked Alpella would not give up easily and following a weakening in Beşiktaş defensive took advantage of this situation with well timed outside baskets and completed the period 69-60 in the front.
Alpella continued to be the impressive side of the game during the final quarter. The sound defensive tactic of the visitors would prevent our Team from scoring and. A remarkable scoring show by Strickland stopped Beşiktaş Cola Turca from erasing the deficit. However this superiority of Alpella did not last until the end of the game because a brilliant last minute 3 point shot by Barış Özcan tied the game (75-75) and sent it into overtime.
Despite of visitor’s early lead in the overtime, both teams displayed a forceful defensive play which kept the score close. Entering into final minute Black & Whites were able to jump in front with Erkan’s basket but Alpella fought back and made the score 84-83 in its favor within the final 30 seconds. Unfortunately Beşiktaş Cola Turca could not convert the scoring opportunity it gained during the final 10 seconds and lost the game with a score of 87-86.
On the other hand, Engin Gençoğlu replaced Murat Didin whose contracted was mutually terminated yesterday and served as the new coach of Black & Whites against Alpella.
