Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Basketball Team grabbed a valuable 81-70 derby victory over Galatasaray Café Crown in the 21th week of Beko Basketball League.
Starting the game with Barış Özcan, Reese, Levent Bilgin, Mc Farlin and Erdal Bibo Black & Whites could not register a single point from their first 4 attacks but his arch rival was not very much productive either. Despite of an aggressive defensive performance by the home side 2 three point shots of Tufan put Beşiktaş 6-0 in front in the 3rd minute of the derby. Host team responded with 3 consecutive three point baskets of its own and regained the lead (9-6). Although Galatasaray looked slightly better under the rims, the game was leveled in the 8th minute (13-13). Both teams relied on their high percentage outside shots and entered the final minute with a 17-17 tie. However, thanks to the free throws of Cevher, Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to remain in front at the end of the first period (22-17).Black & Whites found additional baskets at the start of second period and widened their lead to 7 points. The effective defensive play of Beşiktaş prevented Galatasaray from scoring and forced it to play a catch-up game. Losing its behind the arch scoring touch, home team tried to be effective with Fatih Solak under the both rims. Meanwhile consecutive baskets by Mitchel started to reduce the deficit. During this part of the game, Beşiktaş Cola Turka was unable to repeat the productive performance of the previous period and could not overcome the aggressive Galatasaray defense especially inside the painted area. However Black & Whites eventually managed to regroup and regained their offensive power near the end of the second period which enabled them to enter the 18th minute with a 5 point advantage (35-30).After a brief scoring draught by both teams that lasted until the final 17 seconds, Black & Whites held on to their lead at the end of the first half thanks to their tightened up defense performance (39-30).
During the second part of the game, Beşiktaş Cola Turka established an obvious superiority over its traditional Istanbul rival. By carrying their effective defensive play of the previous half into the third period, Black & Whites started to increase the deficit into double figures in their favor with the additional 3 pointers. Unable to respond to the well timed baskets of Cevher Özer, Barış Özcan and Reese, Galatasaray started to lose its game discipline despite of repeated time-outs by its coach. As a result Beşiktaş Cola Turca took a comfortable lead going into the final period (52-46).
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, home side made last ditch to get back into the game aimed at reducing the scoring margin. During this time, Murat and Mitchel took advantage of their changes and yellow and reds in the game. Nevertheless, all their efforts were not sufficient enough to break the resistance of Beşiktaş Cola Turka who completed the 36th minute 67-54 in the front. From that minute onwards, Black & Whites again started to extend their lead against a much weakened Galasaray defense, this time thanks to the well taken baskets by Erdal Bibo. Visiting Beşiktaş, who actually controlled the game from the very start also enforced a late period rebounding superiority over its host and entered the final minute with a hefty 77-68 lead. Eventually, Beşiktaş Cola Turka won the derby game 81-70 which put an to its downward slide of the recent weeks. The victory also leveled the games at one win each during a possible play off match up.
