Beşiktaş Wheel Chaired Basketball Team hosted Galatasaray at Süleyman Seba Sports Saloon in the 7th week of League. Our Black& Whites lost the derby game 71-54.

Our Black& Whites had a good start into the first derby game of the season and went ahead 6-0 with consecutive points scored in the first two minutes of the period. Visiting yellow and reds tried to respond through the effective performance of Ali Asker and Ferit. However the strong defensive show of Beşiktaş did not allow the visiting team to be effective offensively and made the score 12-5 in the 5th minute. The fast breaks originated by Aytaç’s rebounds kept the score in favor of Black& Whites until the end of the period. In spite of a late staged aggressive defensive effort by Galatasaray that reduced the point deficit and forced the home side to commit errors, Black&Whites were able to lead 18-12 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
In the second period Galatasaray found quick and unanswered baskets and leveled the score at 18 a piece. During this period Black&Whites came empty handed from their first 3 scoring attempts and started to look insufficient offensively. As a result yellow and reds took the lead for first time in the game with Ferit’s 2 point basket. From that point on Galatasaray took control of the game and sustained its lead for long time based on a disciplined and well executed defensive tactic. Unable to overcome this effective defense, Beşiktaş registered only two points in the first 5 minutes of the second half. On the other hand, Galatasaray who established superiority under both rims scored 14 points and took a commanding lead during this time. Black&Whites tried to answer Galatasaray with shots taken from outside but their shooters couldn’t hit the target as often as they would. At the end of the period visiting team remained in front with a score of 32-26. Yellow and reds closed the first half 37-28 in the lead.
At the start of second part of the derby game, Galatasaray continued to display its powerful performance and kept Beşiktaş scoreless in the first 4 minutes of the period. The 6-0 run of the visiting side during this time widened the deficit in their favor even more. Black& Whites staged a late period offensive rally to reduce the gap and get back into the game but could not put an end to defensive errors. Galatasaray closed the third period 51-40 in the lead.
The aggressive and effective defensive play staged in the first period by Beşiktaş was not sustained in the final quarter. Unable to display its usual productive offensive play, Black&Whites had real difficulties in responding to their opponent’s baskets. In spite of a slightly better offensive show during the closing stages of the game, the continuous errors kept the home side away from its traditional rival who took a 66-53 lead entering into the last minute and eventually won the first derby of the season with a score of 71-54.
Besides the Honorary President Of Beşiktaş Gymnastic Club, Süleyman Seba and our current Vice-President Ertuğrul Kumcuoğlu, the Board Members, Ertunç Soğancıoğlu, Hüseyin Yücel, Gülnaz Arsel and Şeref Yalçın also attended the game together with the Head of Beşiktaş's Council, Şeref Nasır.
