Our Men’s Volleyball Team lost its first Classifying Group game 3-2 to the visiting Arçelik played at BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex.
Our team had a good start into game and entered the first technical time out with an 8-5 lead thanks to the powerful ad scoring spikes of Chitigoi. The superior play of Beşiktaş was backed by effective blocks and did not allow the Arçelik to control the game. As a result, our Team completed the second time out 16-11 in the front. At one point visiting Arçelik took advantage of Beşiktaş’s errors and leveled the score but our Team nevertheless was able to win the set with a score of 25-21.Black&Whites started the second set with a rather controlled performance and established an early lead by points of Chitogoi and Engin. But Arçelik was able to rally and took an 8-7 lead going into first technical time out. In spite of leveling of the game by Beşiktaş at one point, the visiting team entered the second time out leading 14-16 due to its effective services. Our Team could not display its desired performance during the remaining part and lost the set 19-25.
Trailing 8-7 in the first time out of the third set, Black&Whites regained the score advantage in the second time out (16-15). In spite of controlling the set from the start, Arçelik could not respond to the points of Chitigoi. Our Team eventually took the set 25-23 and regained its lead in the sets (2-1).
The fourth set staged a head to head performance by both teams. Beşiktaş entered the first time out 8-6 in the front but it lowered its game tempo and Arçelik regained the lead going into second time out (14-16) as a result. Then the visiting team started to take control of the set by the effective scoring of Valov. When Black&Whites’ efforts turned out to be insufficient, Arçelik finished the set 23-25 in front and leveled the sets (2-2).
In the tie-break set, when our team was trailing 5-7, Libero Birkan sustained an unfortunate injury and had to be replaced by Semih. This unexpected replacement affected our Team’s performance and it could not find its desired points. Visiting Arçelik gradually took advantage of this situation and won this set 12-15 with Valov’s points that gave it a 3-2 superiority in the game.
