Beşiktaş Cola Turca Men’s Basketball Team lost 82-68 to visiting Fenerbahçe Ülker in the 17th week of Beko League in a derby game played at BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex.
Starting the game with Barış Özcan, Reese, Mc Farlin, Cevher Özer and Jamel Thomas, our Black&Whites took an early lead with the baskets from painted area during the first three minutes. Thanks to baskets all scored under the rim by McFarlin our team carried a 13-8 lead into the 4th minute. During the following minutes Fenerbahçe Ülker displayed an aggressive and effective defense play that limited our Team’s offensive performance. While continuing to perform solid defense, visiting line up started to score back to back points that started to reduce the deficit. As a result of high percentage shots behind the arch, the visiting Yellow&Darkblue team entered the final minute 19-13 in the front and grabbed a 22-15 lead at the end of the period.At the beginning of the second period, our Black&Whites found two quick 3-pointers and lowered the deficit to 3 points (27-24). Then a basket by Thomas leveled the score but Beşiktaş Cola Turka Basketball Team could not stop the effective outside shots of Fenerbahçe. Frequently relying on shots behind the arch, the visiting team found three 3-pointers at the end of the 17th minute and widened the deficit. However our Black&Whites responded with their own points and reduced the advantage of the visiting team to 3 points towards the final minute. Despite of this positive effort, Beşiktaş Cola Turka was unable to regain the lead and the first half ended with 43-40 superiority of Fenerbahçe.
Our team started the second half with baskets and displayed a better rebounding performance than its rival. Beşiktaş tried to cut the outside effectiveness of Fenerbahçe but was still trailing 50-45 at the end of the 25th minute. Taking advantage of the visiting team’s turnovers in offense, Black&Whites reduced the difference again but could not turn the game in their favor. Thanks to the 3-pointers by Solomon and Mirsad, Fenerbahçe survived and had a 56-53 lead going into final period.
Unable to register any basket, our team found only 4 baskets during the first 3 minutes of the fourth period. In spite of this lack of scoring, the effective defensive play of Beşiktaş Cola Turka was able to reach its rival’s scoring during this time and Reese’s basket finally leveled the game (59-59). However, the 3-pointers by Semih and Mirsiç gave the lead to Yellow&Darkblue team for good. The ensuing behind the arch shots by Ömer Onan and Mirsic widened the deficit even more during the final three minutes. Unable to respond to this high percentage shots, our Black&Whites eventually fell off from the game as the gap between the two teams at one time increased to 16 points (80-64). The derby game ended with 82-68 superiority of Fenerbahçe.
