Fenerbahçe: 63 – Beşiktaş Cola Turka: 53

In the 12th week of the TBBL, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team visited league leading Fenebahçe. The derby game played in Caferağa Sports Saloon ended with 63-53 superiority of Yellow&Darkblue host team.

Starting the game with Kara Braxton, Esmeral Tunçluer, Stacey Lovelace, Tuğba Palazoğlu and Sheri Sam, Black&Whites had difficulty in stopping the early attacks of Fenerbahçe. Unable to overcome the defense of host team, Beşiktaş registered only 1 point in the first 5 minutes of the game against 9 points of its rival. Being especially effective under the rim Fenerbahçe led 20-6 at end of the first period.

Opening up the second period with Tuğba Palazlıoğlu’s 3-pointer Beşiktaş Cola Turka eventually moved away from the passive showing of the first period and began to be more effective offensively. Yet, the lack of its weak defensive performance still continued. Fenerbahçe took advantage of this situation and entered into the 15th minute 31-17 in front thanks to the 3-pointers by Pondexter. From that minute on Black&Whites got their act together and started to reduce the gap with consecutive baskets scored in a row and 3 pointers. Despite of lowering the deficit to 1 point at one time Fenerbahçe still lead 37-34 at the end of the half.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka started the second half with a similar performance as in the first period and gave away easy scoring chances to its opponent. Not refusing these offers, the host team again started to widen the gap especially with Frönlich’s baskets. While creating back to back errors in defense, Black&Whites could not display any offensive power. In the final 30 seconds Fenerbahçe attained the largest deficit of the game (54-38) and completed the period 54-40 in front.

The situation in the fourth period was not too different for a while. After the 35th minute, Beşiktaş Cola Turka got back into the game and made final and effective attempts to reduce the score difference. However the undesired steps, turnovers and weak rebounding of Black&Whites throughout the game prevented them to turn the game round in their favor. While Fenerbahçe was leading 59-52 in the 38th minute, Beşiktaş Cola Turka again came out empty handed from its final attacks and as a result lost the game with a score of 63-53.
