Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team lost to visiting Türk Telekom in the 8th week of the Beko Basketball league at a game played in BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex
Entering the game with Reese, Ostojic, Cevher Öz, Arda Vekiloğlu and Erkan Veyseloğlu first five, our Black&Whites did not display an effective performance against their opponents during the early minutes of the game. Consequently our Beşiktaş Cola Turka could not score a single point in the first 3 minutes of the game. While our side came empty handed from its first 4 scoring attempts, the visiting Türk Telekom scored 7 points during this time. Reese’s basket in the 4th minute stopped the opposing side’s scoring run and put Beşiktaş on the score board for the first time. The consecutive points of our Black&Whites started to reduce the point difference. Entering the last part of the period trailing (17-10), the 3 points by Beşiktaş Cola Turka made the score 17-13 in favor of visiting Ankara representative and the first period was completed with this low score.Preventing our team to find any kind of baskets with their aggressive defensive play, Türk Telekom’s attempts to widen the score and steal the victory was also fruitless. On the other hand our Black and Whites could not put its act together and create serious scoring opportunities at the other end. As a result they only scored 6 points in the 7 minutes of the second period. In the 17th minute of the game the Blue&Whites from Ankara were leading (25-19). Tutku Açık of Türk Telekom took advantage of our defensive errors and the visiting side went to the locker room leading (29-19) at the end of the first half.
At the early part of the second period Türk Telekom took sole control of the game against an unproductive Beşiktaş side. Consecutive points by the league leaders at one point opened up a 15 point gap between the two teams. Unable to get any baskets from the painted area and forced to take outside shots our Beşiktaş Cola Turka nevertheless made a last effort to reduce the gap and catch its opponent. Back to back three-pointers by Erkan and Reese reduced the gap to 6 points in the 17th minute (45-39). At the closing stages of the third period, Beşiktaş Cola Turka showed its fans a much better defensive performance and closed Türk Telekom’s easy ways to the basket. Reese’s basket made the score (45-44) and a brilliant three-point basket by the same American brought Beşiktaş on top for the first time after trailing most of the game. At end of the period our Black&Whites were leading with a score of 48-47.
Last period staged the most exciting moments of the game. Both teams exchanged baskets early on and Beşiktaş Cola Turka stayed in the game thanks to the spectacular play of Aubrey Reese. As a result of his critical three-point baskets our Black and Whites entered the 38th minute leading (58-55). Despite of an impressive defensive effort that gave our team a superiority in rebounds, Türk Telecom converted its outside shots into valuable points and won the game with a score of 68-60.
Top scorer of the game was Aubrey Reese with 28 points. The other scorers of Beşiktaş Cola Turka were Erkan Veyseloğlu (10), Djuro Ostojic (8), Brook Sales (7), Derya Yannıer (3), Levent Bilgin (2) and Cevher Özden (2).
