Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team defeated visiting Efes Pilsen by a score of (74-65) at the 4th week of the BEKO Basketball League in BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Center.
Starting the game with Reese, Ostojic, Cevher Özer, Erkan Veyseloğlu, Barış Özcan Beşiktaş went ahead against their İstanbul rivals through the 9 points it scored during the first 3 minutes. The effective performance of Ostojiç under the basket and Cevher’s 3 point shot made the score (9-2) at the 4th minute of the period. However Efes fought back with back to back three point shots from Cenk and Haslip and tied the score (11-11) and then went ahead (15-13) at the end of the period thanks to Kerem Gönlüm’s basket.Both team have started the second period with more emphasis on their defense and Beşiktaş eventually took the lead with Reese’s baskets. His 3 point shot put Black and Whites ahead (18-17) at the 14th minute of this İstanbul derby. The player substitutions made the game more exciting but did not produce any additional scoring punch to both sides. During this period Beşiktaş Cola Turka stayed in the game thanks to the outstanding play of our American star Reese who displayed a one man show. Reese’s three point shot put our team ahead once again (27-25) at the 17th minute of the game. Our other American player Brooks Sales converted his free throws in the dying seconds and the first half was completed with our (29-27) superiority.
Black and Whites had a superb start to the third period and handcuffed Efes's offensive play who couldn’t score a point in the first 3 minutes. Meanwhile Beşiktaş increased its advantage to 11 points (38-27). Extra 3 point shots from Barış Özcan and Erkan Veyseloğlu brought the score to (49-32) and third period ended (54-36) in favor of Beşiktaş.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team tried to slow down the game and wanted to protect its score advantage in the fourth period. However our experienced opponent got organized offensively and tried to reduce the scoring gap. Black and Whites responded by the 3 points of our raising young Turkish star Cevher Özden. The Blue and White's American Haslip brought back Efes within 9 points 2 minutes left in the game but defensively strong Beşiktaş wouldn’t let go off this valuable derby. In last minutes of the game our opponent has tried to fill the gap. Even though they reduced the gap to 9 points for a while (69-60) the final score was (74-65) in favor of Beşiktaş who probably played the best game of this young season.
