Beşiktaş Cola Turka:71 Fenerbahçe:72

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team hosted Fenerbahçe at BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Center in the first week of the TBBL. Our Black and Whites lost this close game (72-71) to their traditional İstanbul rivals.

Both teams had a fast start to the derby game. Fenerbahçe, after the first five minutes established an early superiority in the game through extra points under Beşiktaş basket. The outside scoring and strong defensive performance put our opponent (21-13) ahead at the end of the first period.
Fenerbahçe tried to protect its scoring advantage with Nilay Yiğit and Pondexter in the second period. Beşiktaş couldn't overcome the rival defense and was unable to stop Pondexter from scoring. Despite of our Lovelace's points, the lack of effective attacking performance in general by Beşiktaş widened the scoring difference in favor   of Fenerbahçe. Black and Whites went to the dressing room after being down (42-25) at the end of the first half.
Beşiktaş was better organized offensively in the third period and tried to reduce the score difference. However Fenerbahçe was still putting up a strong defense to protect their 17 points advantage with extra defensive rebounds. Beşiktaş also couldn’t succeeded in rebounds and fouls. Playing with more confidence, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team started to reduce the gap and became more effective especially near to the end of the period. The scoring difference was down to 9 points (55-46) thanks to the three point shots from Esmeral and Şebnem at the 29th minute of the game. However this period also ended with (57-48) superiority of Fenerbahçe.
Beşiktaş carried its impressive performance into the last period and made score (60-45) with Yasemin’s baskets. From this moment on Esmeral took the center stage and brought the scoring gap to 5 points with 2 minutes left in the game. Points by Şebnem and Yasemin brought the score to (70-68) and Esmeral’s free throws reduced the difference to only 1 point (71-70) inside the last minute.
The last minute of the game was a typical thriller. Fenerbahçe couldn't convert its free throws and struggled to win the game by only one point (71-72).
