Beşiktaş Handball Team, playing the first game of the European Cup Winner’s 2nd round, beat the visiting MHK Kösice by score of (39-28) at BJK Süleyman Seba Sports Saloon.

Starting the game with Pecha’s goal, the Slovakian representative applied a lot of pressure on Beşiktaş during the first half. Not being able to get organized neither in defense nor offense found its first goal on 5th minute of the game with Ramazan. Despite being down (4-1) at this point of the game, our team started to be effective with Valeri. As a result, although being down (7-3) at the 10th minute, our Black and Whites first tied the score, then went ahead with Utku’s goal (13-12). Creating more changes with the addition of Oğuzhan and Utku, Beşiktaş never fell back after the 20th minute of the game and the first half was completed (20-15) in favor of Beşiktaş thanks to the last second goal of Valeri.
Beşiktaş played with more confidence in the second half and its strong defensive performance together with keeper Mustafa’s brilliant saves didn’t give too many scoring chances to their opponent. Moreover, our Black and Whites kept Kosice under pressure with Saffet Halilagiç and Murat Güder super plays and opened up an 8 goal difference at the 45th minute. The eye catching performance of Beşiktaş continued until the last whistle and the game finalized with (39-22) superiority of the Turkish side by giving them a significant advantage of 11 goals going to second game. The replay will be played in Slovakia on October 7, 2006.
