Beşiktaş Cola Turka:64 Fenerbahçe:82

The Beşiktaş Women’s Basketball Team was beaten by Fenerbahçe 82 – 64 in the quarter final game of the Tadım Turkey Cup in the Kayseri Atatürk Sports Hall and bid farewell to the cup.

The Black & White team began the first game of the cup with the starting five of Laine Selwyn, Yasemin Horasan, Şebnem Kimyacıoğlu, Jaclyn Johnson and Nyree Roberts.  The first point was made by Jaclyn Johnson and in the very first minutes both teams were effective in the offence.  Although Beşiktaş Cola Turka was behind 5 - 4 for a time in the first minutes, which included points from both opposing teams, Beşiktaş made consecutive points and went ahead in the third minute and increased the gap to five points in the fifth minute (10 - 5).  The Black & White team was effective on offence but had some problems with defense at times. It was easy for Fenerbahçe to take advantage of these problems and Fenerbahçe decreased the gap down to one point. Beşiktaş Cola Turka finished ahead 17 – 13 in the first period, in which it was effective on offence.
This time, Fenerbahçe started well in the second period of the first half.  The Black & White team was very generous in giving away chances to the other team and wasn’t able to score in the first minutes. Fenerbahçe, on the other hand, started being a partner in the game with the points it scored.  Fenerbahçe once more went ahead 18 – 17 with the points of Korana Zanze. Beşiktaş Cola Turka raised the tempo when Nihan Anaz came into the game, turned the score in their favor and were five points ahead in the 13th minute, 29 – 24.  Beşiktaş Cola Turka, with the lead of Yasemin Horasan and Jaclyn Johnson, had no difficulty in scoring against the hard defense of Fenerbahçe.  The Black & White team was ahead 29 – 26 in the last two minutes of the first half and because they made two fouls in a row in the last minute, Fenerbahçe decreased the seven-point gap to three points (33 - 30).  The Black & White team went to the locker room ahead 35 – 30 at the end of the first half.
The Black & White team started the second half with the same five and did not have much difficulty stopping Fenerbahçe’s attacks with good defensive plays.  Fenerbahçe, who were not able to be effective under the hoop and so scored from the outside, tied the game in the 24th minute with the three point shot of Powell (38-38).  The three point shot of Nilay Yiğit put Fenerbahçe ahead once more (41-38). Beşiktaş Cola Turka, who had problems stopping Powell in the third quarter, was not able to dominate their rival as they did in the first half. At the beginning of the 30th minute the score was tied at 49-49 and the three point shot of Powell caused Fenerbahçe to finish the third quarter ahead 52 – 49.
 
Fenerbahçe was once again effective in the first parts of the fourth quarter, which produced great excitement.  Beşiktaş made baskets and was once ahead in the 35th minute but got behind once more with the three point shot of Tan White. Beşiktaş Cola Turka was ahead 58-57 in the 37th minute and relaxed the game when Amachere Mactebene scored with foul throws in this minute. But Fenerbahçe , who won a basket-foul with Zanze, tied the game once more  (60-60). In the last minute of the game, Fenerbahçe scored foul throws with Tan White and once more was ahead 62-60. Black & White team had an offensive opportunity in the last 18 seconds of the game but they were not able to take advantage of this chance. Thus, the regular time ended in a tie 62 – 62 and the game went into overtime.
Both teams showed examples of great struggles in the overtime of the quarter final game and Fenerbahçe won three foul throws by Nalan, scored three out of three and was first to be ahead.  Beşiktaş Cola Turka was not able to score in the first half of the overtime but their rival scored eight points and turned the score in their favor. The Yellow & Dark Blue team kept the score advantage with Nalan’s good playing in the rest of the game and reached the semi finals with a victory of 82 – 64.
