Beşiktaş Women’s Basketball Team played against ESB Lille Metropole from France in an away game in its first test in the 3rd round of the European Cup. Black & White players displayed a great fight up until the last moments but left the game 79-77 tracking.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka began the game with the basket scored by Roberts in a foul throw. French team took an 8-1 lead within the first 1.5 minutes and maintained its lead for a while. Black & White players got better in the last minutes and scored several points, and tied the score at 22-22 with 28 seconds to play. The quarter was ended with that score.Starting the second quarter with Johnson’s basket and taking the lead, Beşiktaş Cola Turka lost its lead later in the period. The first half of the game continued with points scored by both teams. While Jacklyn Johnson and Nyree Roberts scored baskets and carried the Black & White team, Gomis and Wambe in the host team scored points. First half of the game ended with French team leading 40-39.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka, taking control of the game in the first minutes of the 3rd period, increased the difference to 8 points at one point thanks to Johnson and Yasemin Horasan. Visitor team, which could not stop Gomis and Wambe in the last minutes of the game, could not stop trimming of the gap. Beşiktaş Cola Turka wrapped up the 3rd quarter with a 58-59 lead.
The last period was very contentious. Black & White team increased the gap to 7 points in the first 5 minutes but could not maintain its lead. The French team regained its lead with a score of 72-71 with 3 minutes and 16 seconds to play. ESB Lille Metropole was in the lead with 79-72 in the last 1 minute, won the game (79-77) despite it could not stop Selwyn scoring 3 points whereas Yasemin 2 points.
