Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team hosted Banvit at Akatlar in 14th week of the league. Black & White team lost the game with 66-60 which was very closely played. This was the first defeat of the Black & White team in this season at Akatlar.
Both teams had difficulty scoring points in the first 2 minutes of the game played at BJK Akatlar Sports & Culture Complex. Banvit took the lead by the end of the first 5 minutes after 2 three-pointers scored in a row. Even though the host team losing the ball from time to time reduced the gap thanks to a 3 pointer by Kerem, and the points scored by Tekinalp and Wright, Banvit wrapped up the first quarter 12-16 leading.The teams could not score any points in the first 2.5 minutes of the second quarter. While Beşiktaş Cola Turka toughened its defense, it kept losing the ball in this period also. Black & White team, trying to trim the gap with series of baskets scored by Kimani Ffriend and Elliott, had difficulty blocking outer shots of its opponent. While the gap was reduced in the last minutes thanks to the Wright’s efforts, Banvit went to the locker room 25-30 in the lead.
Problem of losing balls in the first half continued in the first minutes of the 3rd quarter, and this weakened Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s offensive strength. However, the gap did not widen since Banvit could not utilize the mistakes very well. Beşiktaş Cola Turka, gaining its morale with the support coming from the grandstands, applied hard defense but could not solve the outer shots made by the opponent. Black & White team scored points thanks to Barış Özcan and Michael Wright and trimmed the gap down to 3 points thanks to the players’ efforts in the last seconds (42-45).
Last period began with mutual baskets. Banvit managed to keep the gap since Beşiktaş Cola Turka could not stop Önder Külçebaş. Despite the 3 pointer scored by Barış Özcan with 5 minutes to play, Banvit did not lose the game discipline and played without the brain of the team Cameron in the last 3.5 minutes. Beşiktaş Cola Turka, reducing the gap to 2 points by taking control of the game with Michael Wright under the rim in the last few seconds, could not stop two baskets scored in a row by Radosevic. After the 3-pointer scored by Barış, the score was 60-60 with 20 seconds to play. Banvit, which utilized the free throws well, won the game with 60-66 and became the very first team to grab a victory out of Akatlar this year.
