Beşiktaş posted a 5-3 victory over Galatasaray in the final game of Efes Pilsen Cup 5 Tournament and took the cup home. The game had ended with a 1-1 tie in the first 90 minutes and the score had not changed in the extended time.

Beşiktaş kicked off the game and scored the first goal. İbrahim Akın, who received the ball passed by Tümer behind the opponent’s defense line at the 10th minute, got face to face with the goal keeper and scored the goal, putting his team 1-0 ahead. After the goal scored, while Galatasaray tried to get closer to Beşiktaş’s goal for tying the game, Beşiktaş created scoring opportunities with Tümer, Ailton and İbrahim Akın. The Black Eagle, that took control of the game and threatened the opponent’s goal particularly in the last part of the first half, wrapped up the first 45 minutes 1-0 leading.
Beşiktaş began the 2nd half with Technical Director Jean Tigana replacing Ailton with Veysel Cihan. Galatasaray tied the score 1-1 thanks to İliç at 56th minute of the game. After that moment, the Black & White team seemed to take control of the game with high passing percentage but could not score goals in the series of opportunities they had, and missed the opportunity to take the lead. When the 90 minute in the game ended with a 1-1 tie, teams played in the extended time where golden goal rule was applicable.
Referee Kuddusi Müftüoğlu whistled a penalty in favor of Galatasaray in the 2nd minute of the first half into the extended time. Cordoba saved with a super reflex the penalty kick performed by Hakan Şükür. After that moment, even though the Black & White team got very close to scoring again with the free kicks performed by Ali Güneş and Tümer Metin in a row, the score of the game did not change in the first half of the extended time.
The tempo in the game slowed down considerably and İliç of Galatasaray was shown a red card and ejected from the game in the 2nd half. Even though Beşiktaş got very close to another goal in the last moments in the game thanks to Kleberson, the score did not change and teams began performing the penalty kicks.
While Tümer Metin who kicked the first penalty for the Black & White team, scored a goal, Cordova saved the ball kicked by Necati. Kleberson scored a goal in the 2nd penalty and Aydın scored a goal for Galatasaray. İbrahim Akın scored a goal in the 3rd penalty and Galatasaray scored another goal thanks to Özgürcan. While Koray kicked the ball into the net in the 4th penalty, Cordoba saved the ball kicked by Ferhat from Galatasaray. Thus the Black & White players left the field 5-3 in the lead after the penalty kicks and had the Efes Cup.
