Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team lost against Etose Alicante from Spain in an away game which was its 7th game in Group C of the ULEB Cup (75-65).
Beşiktaş Cola Turka began the game with the first 5 players consisting of Rodney Elliott, Kerem Tunçeri, Tolga Tekinalp, Michael Wright and Tyrone Ellis. The Black & White team, which scored the first point in the game with Wright, gained points thanks to the baskets scored by Tolga and Kerem, and did not give any easy points to its opponent with its hard defense. Widening the gap thanks to 3-pointers scored in a row by Elliott and Ellis, Beşiktaş Cola Turka wrapped up the first period 21-15 leading.Beşiktaş Cola Turka responded immediately to the 3-pointer scored by Hernandez in the beginning of the second period with Elliot, and continued its hard defense. The Black & White team, which could not pass the successful defense performed by the hosting team in the last few minutes, came back empty handed from its attacks. The 3-pointer scored by Kerem in the last few seconds made the visitor team feel relieved. Beşiktaş Cola Turka completed the period 36-29 in the lead thanks to its high free throw ratio.
Etosa Alicante, making a good start into the 3rd period thanks to the 3-pointer by Digbou, did not let the Black & White players to attack easily with its fast paced defense. The hosting team closed the gap and tied the score at 40-40 by the end of the first 5 minutes. Points scored by Barış Özcan, Elliott and Wright put Beşiktaş Cola Turka in the lead again and the 3rd period was completed with Beşiktaş 52-51 leading.
The last quarter of the game was very contentious. Etosa took the lead with the baskets scored in the first few seconds (53-52) and increased the gap with fast paced attacks. Sundov, who was effective under the rim thanks to his height, scored critical points for the hosting team. While Beşiktaş Cola Turka did not allow the gap to increase with its defense, it also lost balls due to simple mistakes. The Black & White team, trying to hold on with baskets scored by Mithat and Wright, could not stop the opponent’s attacks in the last 2 minutes and thus the gap became wider, and left the critical game with 75-65 tracking.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka, aiming to advance to the next round by finishing its group in top 4, will play an away game against Queluz Sintra from Portugal on January the 3rd, which will be its 8th game.
