Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team, which hosted Unics Kazan from Russia at Akatlar in the 5th game in the ULEB Cup, lost against its strong opponent (88-75).
Beşiktaş Cola Turca began the game with the first five consisting of Kerem Tunçeri, Tolga Tekinalp, Michael Wright, Tyrone Ellis and Rodney Elliot; and was in the lead score wise against its opponent in the first period thanks to the points scored by Wright. The Black & White team, which did not have difficulty against its opponent’s attacks, grabbed majority of the defense rebounds and widened the gap with three-points scored one after another, and was 22-11 in the lead with 11 points difference with 1 minute to play. The Black & White players, scoring easily with outside shots in the first period, performed a superior play in defense also and wrapped up the first quarter 24-13 leading.Beşiktaş Cola Turca began the second quarter good against Unics Kazan which is the undefeated leader in Group C and has important players such as Stombergas and Best in its team. The Russian Team, which could not pass the successful defense, had a low ratio of success in its outside shots also and was 32-15 tracking against the home team with 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Unics Kazan trimmed the gap in the last minutes of the second quarter with the points it scored against the Black & White team that from time to time had shortcomings in defense. Beşiktaş Cola Turca went to the locker room 37-31 in the lead.
The Russian team took control of the game in the third period. Unics Kazan took good advantage of the mistakes made by Beşiktaş Cola Turca, which was unable to repeat its performance of the first half, reduced the deficit thanks to the points scored by Stombergas and took the lead in the last seconds and finished the 3rd period 54-55 in the lead.
Unics Kazan, making its presence completely felt in the last quarter, increased the gap to 13 points with the three pointers, and the points scored under the rim with 3 minutes remaining (62-75). Beşiktaş Cola Turca, which also lost the offense rebounds to its opponent, left the game 75-88 tracking.
