Beşiktaş Cola Turka:87 E.Alicante:93

Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team was defeated 93-87 in the extended time at the 2nd game of the Group C in the ULEB Cup played against Etosa Alicante at BJK Akatlar Sport and Culture Complex

While Beşiktaş, making a start into the game with a good defense, made its opponent lose balls one after another, it was not very successful in offense. While both teams returned empty-handed from their attacks, the Black & White team was 8-2 in the lead in the 4th minute thanks to outer shots by Elliot and Ellis. Beşiktaş, maintaining its good performance, wrapped up the first period 24-17 leading.
The Black Eagle, which could not stop its opponent’s effective play in the second period, put Kornegay in the team in order to take control under the rim. Beşiktaş, having difficulty in scoring points from under the rim in spite of the aforesaid change, lost its superiority in rebounds and went to the locker room 44-37 tracking in the end of the first half.
While the second half began with points scored by both teams, Beşiktaş could not perform the way it had wanted and finished the 3rd period 57-60 tracking.
Performing a very enthusiastically in the 4th period, Beşiktaş took great advantage of disqualification of Johnsen, who was the best player in the opponent team, due to two intentional fouls which he made in the game, and took the lead 68-65 in 34th minute. While the game had been very close from that moment on, Beşiktaş was in the lead 72-71 two minutes remaining thanks partly to the support by Michael Wright.
Neither team could score points from their shots after that. Tyrone Ellis, who scored one of the free throws gained in 23 minutes remaining, fouled Digbeu with 1.1 seconds to play. While Beşiktaş was 73-71 in the lead, Digbeu threw two free throws but missed both. However, while the time was ticking quickly in this position, the Spanish team grabbed the ball which returned from the board and scored the point. The referee gave a questionable score decision and the score became 73-73 and the game was extended.
Teams were in tie (77-77) in the last few moments since they were not very effective in their attacks in the extended time of 5 minutes. The Black & White players took the lead for a moment but Etosa Alicante scored a point in its final attack and was able to make the score 81-81, and the game was extended once more.
Beşiktaş could not make a good start into the second extended period; however even though it was 81-87 behind with 2 minutes to play, Beşiktaş was able to reduce the gap to 1 point thanks to points scored by the Captain Tolga Tekinalp. But, the Black & White team, which could not stop its opponent’s outer shoots in the last minute of the incredibly contentious game, left the court 93-87 tracking.
