Beşiktaş Advanced a Round in Handball

Posting a 30-24 triumph over the Hungarian team Dunaferr SE in the 3rd round rematch in the European Federation Cup (EHF), Beşiktaş Handball Team eliminated its opponent by score average, and made the first 16 teams in the Cup.

Rematch of the game, which had been played in Hungry on 5th of November and which Dunaferr SE had scored a 34-31 victory, was played at   Süleyman Seba Sports Hall. The guest team made a good start into the game and took the lead in the first few minutes. Later on, Beşiktaş closed the gap and made the score 7-7, and was in the lead 12-9 at 20th minute of the first half. Goal keeper Nevzat Hocaoğlu was in the spotlight with its successful performance, but got injured and replaced by Yılmaz Özgür. Beşiktaş completed the first half 16-14 in the lead by effective performance of Emin Halaç.
The guest team Dunaferr SE started good in the 2nd half and made the score 16-16 thanks to the 2 points scored one after another in the first 3 minutes. Widening the gap with points scored later on by Cengiz Hatırnaz, Utku Ergüder and Bülent Erkol, Beşiktaş caught its opponent off-guard especially in the fast attacks. In addition to hard defense by Beşiktaş, successful saves by the goalkeeper Yılmaz prevented the Hungarian team to score easy points. Beşiktaş was 26-19 in the lead at 48th minute thanks to creative points scored by Berk Özöktem and ambition of Utku in times of difficulty. While Dunaferr SE fought vigorously until the last minutes, Beşiktaş, playing cautiously, grabbed a 30-24 victory.  The Black & White team forced its opponent out of the Cup with point average advanced the next round and made the first 16 teams.
