Beşiktaş realized a “first” at this field by realizing the organization of the Final Group of the Wheelchair Basketball European Champions Clubs Cup, and became the first Turkish team to compete in the finals.

Fuat Çimen, Vice-President of the Sports Federation for the Physically Disabled, said in the statement he made that the Final Group games, which will be played on 4-7 May 2006, will be realized in Turkey through the organization by Beşiktaş.
Jan Bertteling, Europe President of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF), and Ron Corperath, General Secretary of the same organization came to İstanbul 2 months ago and made observations, following the application made under leadership of Beşiktaş. The committee visited the BJK Akatlar Sports and Culture Complex and Süleyman Seba Sports Hall where the organization will be held and the accommodation places, and left İstanbul with positive impressions.
Fuat Çimen emphasized the fact that beating England, France, Holland and Germany and getting the organization of the Final Group games held in Turkey was a “first” and continued as follows:
 “Championship of Beşiktaş Club in Turkey has become the corner stone. Galatasaray established a team and will compete in the 2nd league in this season. Fenerbahçe is coming a year after. Beşiktaş has led the aforesaid teams. Beşiktaş became a candidate on behalf of Turkey for an important organization of Europe, and obtained a great success by being chosen to organize the said event in the first year of its being candidate. This has a historical importance with respect to sports for physically disabled.
Fuat Çimen said the following for indicating that the collage announcing championship of the Wheelchair Basketball Team on the official web site of BJK had impressed the President Jan Bertteling and played a great role for the decision taken in favor of Beşiktaş: “After Beşiktaş Club had become a candidate for this event, they have visited the web site of the club in order to get some information and have seen the picture displaying the championship of the wheelchair basketball team on the first page to which they have come across. The importance given for the physically disabled on the official web site of a club where football is the major attraction and which has a history of 102 years has impressed them very much, and they have decided to allow Beşiktaş to organize the event.”
The elimination group games in the cup will be played in France, England and Holland. In addition to Beşiktaş, the German RSV Lahn-Dill, champion of the last season, will participate in the finals without playing any elimination game.  There will be 8 teams competing for the championship, and the remaining 6 teams will be determined as a result of the elimination games.
