World famous goal scorer Ailton, who had scored in both games of the league first against Denizlispor and then Gençlerbirliği, made exclusive statements to our web site and BJK TV. Ailton spoke clearly about the Vaduz game: “Goal, goals and we will win!”
Ailton, who had become the darling of the fans and point of attention of the sports community since the day he had arrived to Istanbul, talked to our web site and BJK TV. Ailton, who had scored twice in two games of the Turkcell Super League in which he had played and who had drawn the attention with his sympathetic attitude and ambition on the field, sincerely answered all of the questions ranging from Beşiktaş’s Championship odds to why he was being called “Tony”.You stated that you were happy of being in Turkey every opportunity you got. Almost one month passed over your arrival to Turkey. What do you think now? How is your relationship with your teammates?
How I was being welcomed when I had arrived here and the sympathy that they had displayed towards me on the field was unbelievable. I thank our fans for that. I am very happy of being here. So is my family. My friends are helping me a lot both on and off the field and during the camps. Our relationship is very well.
The fans displayed great deal of sympathy especially in the Denizlispor game that had been played at BJK İnönü Stadium. They even invented a special cheer for you. Do you like how you are being called to the grandstands?
Such thing never happened to me in Brazil, Mexico and Germany in which I had played before. They also liked me a lot however they never saluted me with such special gesture. It really is perfect. I liked a lot. I was not expecting such thing therefore I am very happy.
Fenerbahçe derbies are very important for Beşiktaş. We would be playing the first derby of the season in the 6th week against Fenerbahçe. Can you predict the atmosphere of that game? Have you ever talked to your friends about that?
Derby games always are like big feasts throughout the world. Especially couple of derbies in Mexico has similar attributes as the ones in Turkey. I think that it would be a derby like the ones I have seen there. This will be the first derby that I would experience in Turkey. Not only me but also all of my teammates will be completely ready at that date. We feel ready right now anyway. I want to win that game of course.
We knew that you were being called “Tony” in Germany and Brazil. Does this have a special meaning?
My name was far too long for my teammates when I came to Germany. Naturally some of them started to call me “Tony” whereas some “Ahi”. One day I told them ‘Choose the one that you want to call me on the field’. They decided on ‘Tony’. My friends and coach also calls me ‘Tony’ here. Moreover I named one of my horses in Brazil ‘Tony’ since it is a horse that could run very fast suddenly and make sudden moves. I named it ‘Tony’ since it carried my features a lot. It is the ‘Tony’ in Brazil and I am the ‘Tony’ in Turkey.
We saw that you got angry when you could not receive the passes as you wanted. Were there moments that you became aggressive? Is your football style little bit aggressive?
Imagine that you are very hungry. You sit on the table. You realize that the meal that you have picked from the menu and that you like most is not available. My situation is very similar to this. Best meal for me is the goal. If I could not receive the necessary passes on the field, if the ball did not come to me well or if I could not find the goal when the ball did come well to me, I might look like aggressive from outside with the excitement of the moment. This is totally related to the game itself. I am a complete forward. Forwards are always hungry for goals.
You were pretty good in the Denizlispor and Gençlerbirliği games. Will this performance of yours convey our Beşiktaş to Championship?
I really like the current status of our Team. However we are talking about a new team. As you all know, me and Kleberson arrived last. Many players arrived before. Therefore we need little bit more time in order to be much better coordinated on the field. I believe from the bottom of my heart that we will be Champions. We would beat Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and be on top of all of the teams and be Champions if we could take care of small issues. We are united within the team; we are a big family. Being united is the most important factor that would convey us to Championship.
What are you going to say about the Vaduz game?
Goal, goals and we will win.
