Fenerbahçe: 93 – Beşiktaş:73

Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team lost the 3rd game of European League Quarter Final in Abdi İpekçi Sport Hall to Fenerbahçe by 93-73 and missed the chance of attending the final four.

Beşiktaş began the historical game between 2 Turkish teams with man-to-man defense with a starting line-up of Khalid El-Amin, Ratko Varda, Bekir Yarangüme, Nedim Yücel and Haluk Yıldırım. El-Amin scored the first point of the game with a 2-pointer. The Black & White team produced its points by El-Amin, Haluk and Varda, whereas Fenerbahçe by Damir Mrsiç and Slayers. Fenerbahçe was ahead by 15-11 at the end of the first five minutes. The home team had to cope with center problem when Trevar Harvey’s foul number reached 3 after the first 5 minutes. Despite Ratko Varda’s impressive performance inside, Beşiktaş could not prevent the perimeter shots of the opponent, and hence completed the first period 28-22 behind Fenerbahçe.
Despite starting the second period with Khalid El-Amin’s basket, the Black & White team was very ineffective in perimeter shots in the first few minutes. Fenerbahçe dominated the first 5 minutes of this period by 33-27. Beşiktaş, which was very effective in defense in the first few minutes, stopped Fenerbahçe scoring however they also had trouble with lost balls. Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe both had difficult time when both Khalid El-Amin and Slayers fouled for the third time in the second period. Beşiktaş gained 4 shots due to a foul and flagrant foul following a full court press in the last minutes of the 2nd quarter. El-Amin scored the foul shots and cut down the deficit. Last second 3-pointer by Haluk Yıldırım put Fenerbahçe ahead by 43-37 at the end of the first quarter.
Beşiktaş Men’s Basketball Team began the 2nd half with a starting line-up of Ratko Varda, Andrew Ellis, Khalid El-Amin, Bekir Yarangüme and Haluk Yıldırım. Andrew Allis scored the first basket of this quarter after 1, 5 minutes following the starting whistle. The score was 48-43 after the first 5 minutes of this quarter, which had been played at a rather slow tempo. Fenerbahçe answered Haluk Yıldırım’s 3-pointer by Damir Mrsiç. The Black &Whites, which answered Fenerbahçe with inside points thanks to superb performance by Varda, performed very well at defensive rebounds. 3rd quarter score was 57-51 following a 3-pointer by Ömer Onan at the last second.
Beşiktaş began the last quarter with press and scored with Haluk Yıldırım in the first minutes however failed to prevent its opponent’s perimeter shots. Khalid El-Amin fouled for the 4th time with 7 minutes 29 seconds remaining. Beşiktaş lagged behind Fenerbahçe by 74-60 at the end of the first five minutes since it failed to prevent the 3- pointer shots by Mark Salyers and Damir Mrsiç. The Black & White team, which started full court press in the last minutes of the game, was very unlucky in offense, and hence could not reduce the deficit and got defeated with a final score of 93-73.
Fenerbahçe became the 4th team of the European League final-four since it won the series by 2-1.
