Riding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, the spirited Black Eagles wrestled control of the game in the early going and looked threatening on quite a few occasions. Then, at the 40th-minute mark, Vaclav Cerny capped off a Beşiktaş breakaway with a beautiful finish to give the home side a 1-0 lead and closed the scoring for the first half.
Black Eagles upped the pressure in the second half but were unable to score an insurance goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, Beşiktaş would reach the UEFA Europa League play-off round where they would face Kauno Zalgiris of Lithuania.
