The Black Eagles faced an uphill battle right from the start. Just 6 minutes into their away game, their central defender Domagoj Vida was shown the red card for causing a penalty. Patrick Twumasi converted the penalty kick and put the hosts 1-0 in front against the short-handed Beşiktaş. In the remainder of first half, Gazişehir Gaziantep could’ve increased their lead, but a series of brilliant saves produced by the Eagles’ keeper Loris Karius kept them at bay. Nevertheless, Güray Vural doubled Gazişehir Gaziantep’s lead at the 57th-minute mark, and then Raman Chipsah seemed to put the match away for the home side minutes later as he netted from the close-range, but back-to-back goals from Umut Nayir and Atiba Hutchinson made it a close game and created an exciting finish.
