Demirören Elected to Third Term
Yıldırım Demirören, the President of Beşiktaş for the past two terms, raced with Murat Aksu in the presidential election held at the General Meeting last night. He received 1669 votes more than his rival and was elected to third term as President.
By reelecting him to another term, the assembly members gave their votes of confidence to Mr. Demirören, who helped Beşiktaş win two titles last season and opened the legendary Fulya Süleyman Seba Complex.
When he entered the meeting hall to cast his vote, his supporters shouted his campaign slogan, “Three more years for Demirören.” He then went to his parents sitting in the stands and kissed their hands in traditional Turkish way to receive their blessings.
According to official results announced by the Head of Election Committee Mr. Uluç Gürkan, out of 7343 eligible votes, Yıldırım Demirören received 4506 votes against 2837 for Mr. Murat Aksu and won the presidency by 1669 votes.
After the official announcement, together with board members, he took the floor to thank the general assembly:
“Today, we have successfully concluded another important chapter in our glorious history. I would like take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you even if you didn’t vote for me. Now, it’s time to stand behind this president and board members and help them make a fresh start. No one should be discouraged because we’ve got your message. With your support there is nothing we cannot achieve.”
The General Meeting of Beşiktaş ended peacefully with no unwanted incident reported.
