Beşiktaş Captures the Turkish Cup

The Black and White trashed archrival Fenerbahçe 4-2 in Izmir Cityt to win the 2008-09 Fortis Turkish Cup final with goals from Yusuf Şimşek (6), Bobo (56, 74) and Holosko (80).

A boisterous Beşiktaş crowd backed the Black Eagle from start to finish. Our goalkeeper Rüstü Reçber got injured during the warm-up and was replaced by the reserve keeper Hakan Arıkan.

The teams appeared evenly matched in the early going, but Yusuf Şimşek’s low drive from outside the box off Tello’s corner kick put Beşiktaş ahead after six minutes. In the 22nd minute, the Black and White wasted a golden opportunity to add to their tally when Bobo failed to finish off a cross in front of the goal line. Five minutes later, Spanish striker Guiza pulled Fenerbahçe even and the score would hold until the end of the first half.

Beşiktaş brought on İbrahim Üzülmez for İbrahim Toraman in the second half. Then, on 56 minutes, the Brazilian Bobo soloed through the Fenerbahçe defense and unleashed a bullet from 20 yards out to make it 2-1 for the Black and White. Soon after the goal, Tello almost made Beşiktaş fans stand up once again, but his hard drive hit the crossbar and stayed out. While the cross-town rivals Fenerbahçe were still trying to recover from the shock of the Black Eagles’ second goal, Beşiktaş pushed forward for a third goal. Bobo headed in Yusuf Şimşek’s deflected shot in the 74th minute to stretch Beşiktaş’s lead to 3-1.  Then, Uğur İnceman entered the game for Yusuf Şimşek, who delivered another superb performance for the Black and White. Ten minutes from time, Holosko closed the scoring for Beşiktaş with a brilliant finish. After Mustafa Denizli substituted Bobo for Nobre, Alex pulled one back with a penalty kick in added time for Fenerbahçe, but it was too little and too late; as the Black and White held on for a 4-2 victory to claim the 2008-09 Fortis Turkish Cup.
