Thanks to back-to-back goals from the hot-shooting duo of Tolga Özbahar and Faruk Vrazalic as well as a fairly tight defence , Beşiktaş Mogaz HT opened up a 3 goal lead after 15 minutes, but the Romanian visitors refused to surrender and managed to stay in the game, trailing only 14-12 at the break. Not having any chance to qualify, both teams appeared to play mostly for the prestige at the outset of the second half, but riding the scoring of Ivan Nincevic, Müfit Arın’s men eventually gained control and pushed Beşiktaş’ lead into comfortable levels. Stubborn Bucuresti recovered again and made a last-ditch attempt to erase the deficit in the dying minutes, but the Black Eagles prevailed 29:27 to finish the VELUX Champions League Group D in third place.
