Galatasaray Café Crown 94 , Beşiktaş Cola Turka 90

In Game 1 of national quarterfinal best-of-three series, visiting  Beşiktaş Cola Turka fell, 94-90, to Galatasaray Café Crown tonight.

The early minutes of Istanbul derby saw the teams match each other basket by basket as they were locked in a 12-12 tie midway through the opening quarter. Then a series of turnovers pushed Galatasaray in front, 21-14, but back-to-back buckets by Mire Chatman helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka pull within 21-18, entering the second. After Marcelus Kemp knocked down a three-pointer to start the second stanza, the Eagles raced to a 26-21 lead, but Shumpert’s consecutive jumpers cut the deficit to 29-27 at the half mark. Then the game turned into a seesaw battle again with Galatasaray taking a 43- 39 edge into the intermission.
Led by Chatman and Kemp, the Eagles looked much more accurate in the third, and despite host team’s aggressive defense, managed to piece together a late spurt that fired them up by four, 64-60, heading into the fourth. Beşiktaş Cola Turka continued to out-shoot its arch-rival in the final quarter and was up by six, 73-67 after 5 minutes. But Galatasaray refused to quit and rode Shumper’s hot hand to tie the game at 80 in the closing seconds and send it into overtime.
Both teams gave everything they’ve got in OT, but Galatasaray got extra points from Shipp down the stretch and walked away with a 94-90 victory. The win gave the home team a 2-0 series lead. The third game is to be played at Akatlar Arena this Sunday.
Kemp finished with game-high 27 points, followed by Chatman (18), Serkan Erdoğan (16) Ogilvy (16), Ignerski (7), Cevher Özer (5) and Hüseyin Beşok (1)
