Beşiktaş 2 – 1 Trabzonspor

Almedia and Quaresma netted first half goals for Beşiktaş as they beat Trabzonspor 2-1 at the Fiyapi Inonu Stadium on Wednesday to progress to the quarter-finals of Ziraat Turkish Cup.

The match, refereed by Cüneyt Çakır, was played in front of a thunderous home crowd that did not quiet down for the entire 90 minutes.
The Black Eagles started out cautiously but got better and better as the game went on, dominating most of the possessions and creating more chances. Their pressure paid off after ten minutes when Hugo Almedia redirected Simao Sabrosa’s cross into the bottom left corner to score his first official goal for Beşiktaş, 1-0. The Portuguese came close to his second on 27 minutes, but his low shot just missed the far post. But two minutes later, another Portuguese Quaresma would make no mistake with his ferocious effort from 25 yards out that caught Trabzonspor goalkeeper Onur Kıvrak flat on his feet, 2-0. To the delight of their fans, the Black and White played out the remainder of the half and took a two-goal advantage into the dressing room.
The visitors made a better start into the second half and reduced the deficit to one with a 46th minute Alanzinho goal. While the Eagles were trying to recover, Trabzonspor almost leveled with their next attack, but Brozek’s header came off the post. With the game on the line, Beşiktaş tried to keep the play away from their side of the field and evened hit the post on 57 minutes. The late substitutions of Fernandes, Bobo and Ekrem Dağ for Mert Nobre, Almedia and Ersan Gülüm did not alter the final score as the Eagles ran out 2-1 victors.
The win, which raised their point tally to nine, enabled Eagles to finish atop the Group B and booked them a ticket to the Turkish Cup Quarter-Finals. In another group match, visitors Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality edged Manisaspor 2-1 and became the second qualifier.
