After the match, Beşiktaş boss Bern Schuster was quite pleased with his players’ performance against the current league leaders Trabzonspor:

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but we were fully committed to win this match. I think, especially in the first half, we fought hard and played a great game. As a result, we scored two great goals. But these early goals also made us relax too soon just like our match against Bucaspor. If we stayed focused, we could definitely find more goals. In the second half, after scoring right from the kick-off, they almost equalised, but luckily the goal post saved us and kept us going rest of the way. We nonetheless managed to regroup quickly and get back into the game. In these types of matches, you cannot take your eyes off even a single second. We need to more careful in our future games.
Most did not pay much attention to the fact that the result of the other match was equally important to us so we had to with at all costs. I am glad we didn’t get knocked out and stayed in the race because it would be such pity for these fighting lads. 
I didn’t expect that Trabzonspor would field their reserves against us. I still don’t understand why they didn’t play with their ideal 11. This tournament is no less important than the league competition. Nevertheless, we had to win regardless of who we play against. As everyone has witnessed tonight, we are a better team than the season’s first half. We want to make progress in every game play. I am sure our fans will soon start appreciating the difference.”
